When I first learned PCB in 1992, I used the PROTEL 3.31 version under DOS operating system. I liked the PADS2000 under DOS operating system with the recommendation of my friend. Later, I used to use the POWER PCB under WINDOWS, but I felt PROTEL99 was not easy to use!

The disadvantage of POWER PCB is the part library (too few packages). Most part library packages need to be made by ourselves, which is not as good as PROTEL99!

But I still use POWER PCB all the time, and I'm used to it!

I agree with Seeking Sun that the selection of cabling tools should be based on the complexity of specific cases, management methods, etc. In fact, each wiring tool has its advantages and disadvantages. For example, PROTEL 99SE may be better for simple, low-frequency systems with fewer parts. Because it is easy to get started, it is better to buy a book and do it step by step. Allegro is very powerful, but it can't be used for simple cases. Moreover, the software is also complex to use and requires high system requirements. The main thing is that the price is relatively high.

Most of our existing products are only thirty or fifty parts. So far, I still use Protel 98 for Lauout. The advantage of this software is that it is very convenient for all manual wiring, has sufficient design rule checking function, and can fully reflect the functional and aesthetic requirements of engineers for products. The board is the most beautiful and has the best electrical performance among all colleagues.

For some complicated ones, such as FPGA or multi bus, I will directly use Candence. The design rules are rigorous and the functions are perfect, especially after the automatic wiring, which can meet the general electrical requirements. And the most important feature is that it is convenient.

Looking back on the use of protel99 when I first entered the Jianghu, I felt that it was very good. I tried my best to recommend it to my classmates. Later, I was reluctant to use PowerPC B because of the need of work. At first, I felt very awkward, but later... I never touched Protel again. Hehe
